Mr. Crutchfield (the son of Tony and Sharon) was recruited by Nebraska, USC, Tennessee, San Diego State and Hawai'i. The 5'9, 190lbs DB opted for BYU. He would later be drafted by the Detroit Lions.

We share in John Muir's recognition of its alumni. The name "Crutchfield" ranks highly among the many great athletes from the City of Pasadena, California who have shaped the fabric of the franchise we call "Pasadena Football."

In 2014, Mr. Crutchfield was inducted into John Muir High School's Hall of Fame.

Tony Crutchfield Sr. played football for John Muir High School in the 1980's. As a pivotal member of the Mustang's defense, Mr. Crutchfield and his teammates won consecutive California Big-School Coastal Conference titles in 1985 and 1986. The '86 team finished undefeated (14-0) and was enshrined in the National High School Hall of Fame.

No less than 10 players were recruited to Div. 1-A colleges from that legendary 1986 squad. Three of them - tailback Ricky Ervins, tight end Marcus Robertson and saftey John Hardy all had NFL careers -something that hadn't been seen in the City of Pasadena since the 1960's.

As a Mustang, Mr. Crutchfield's football honors included All-Pacific League, All-CIF, All-Southern California, All State and League Defensive Player of the Year. He was coached by the legendary Jim Brownfield.
